Pennapiedimonte - Belvedere Balzolo
Starting from Belvedere Balzolo, follow the path that gently ascends toward the rock formations. This wide mountain trail leads you within a few minutes to I Tre Cantoni, a striking rocky viewpoint overlooking the valley.
From here, take the narrow path to the right, which continues along the mountainside. The trail alternates between rocky sections and shaded woodland, but remains easy to follow. After about 20–25 minutes, you’ll reach a small clearing where a path branches downhill toward the Cascate della Pila.
The final stretch descends through a cool forest until you reach the small, tiered waterfalls. It’s a sheltered and peaceful spot, perfect for a short break.
Return via the same route, heading back up to I Tre Cantoni and then to Belvedere Balzolo
Gole dell'Alento
This hike starts in the Gole dell’Allento in Serramonacesca, where you follow a trail that gradually climbs up from the starting point at Abbey di San Liberatore toward Torre di Polegro. At the top, you can enjoy wide views over the gorge and the surrounding landscape. From the tower, you descend along the same path back to the junction, then continue along the route that runs downwards through the narrow gorge. Here you walk past rock walls, flowing water, and shaded sections. At the end of the gorge, you arrive at the abbey again where the walk slowly concludes in a more open and serene setting.
This is just one option, there are multiple routes you can walk adjusting to your own time, from easy to moderate.
Monte Blockhaus
A beautiful hike in the mountains behind our house, the Majella massif.
This walk starts from the Itinerario Indro Montanelli, passes by the Cappella Madonna della Neve, and leads to the remains of Monte Blockhaus, which once stood there.
It’s truly an indescribably beautiful hike along the ridge, with views over the valley, the sea, the mountains, and Mount Amaro (2,793 m).
